Problem: maven error opening zip file Solution: delete .m2 for a fresh start

I created a new maven 4.0.0 project in eclipse via File/New/Other/Maven Projekt on Windows.

I put in some extra dependency in the pom.xml and then after some Project/Clean… and Run/Run As/Maven Clean and Run/Run As/Maven Install , I got the following problem:

[ERROR] Failed to parse plugin descriptor for org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-install-plugin:2.3.1 (C:\Users\\.m2\repository\org\apache\maven\plugins\maven-install-plugin] –>.3.1\maven-install-plugin-2.3.1.jar): error in opening zip file -> [Help 1]

I don’t know how the error came about. I am not sure whether I already had a .m2 folder with old broken content from earlier projects.
But I know that it helped to delete the complete .m2-directory with the repository (if you don’t mind about all the stuff that you already downloaded there.)

I did this after reading that one might try deleting

I read it on this helpful site:
